Maritime Studies

This programme explores the range of issues relating to the national defence and security requirements on the use of the sea for military purposes, and examines how policy shapes military strategy in the maritime environment.

The long-standing Maritime Studies programme undertakes policy research on the use of the sea, maritime security, the maritime operational environment, and the roles and capabilities of military forces based at sea.

The programme enjoys close links with the Royal Navy, the Ministry of Defence, overseas navies, academia and the defence industry.

We also provide lecturing support for university courses: RUSI Maritime Studies staff are currently teaching a Master's course in Defence and Security at the Greenwich Maritime Institute in the University of Greenwich.
