Transatlantic Security

This programme focuses on Britain's changing role in its key alliances with the United States and Europe.

Examining the nature and extent of the UK's interests, the Programme explores the ways in which its Atlantic partnerships can be renewed in order to promote overlapping goals amid challenging strategic circumstances.

The programme enjoys strong working relationships with NATO's civilian and military headquarters, the NATO Allied Transformation command, and defence and foreign ministries in the UK, United States, Canada and Europe.

RUSI Transatlantic Security research is organised into three main pillars:

Joint military operations and planning

Assessing how the transatlantic alliance should meet current challenges in Afghanistan and Iraq, and examining the future of NATO, both as an expeditionary force and as a key player in energy and cyber security.

The transatlantic defence industry

Analysing how Britain and its allies manage defence budgets and spending amidst conflicting strategic priorities and an economic downturn.

Changes in transatlantic co-operation

Exploring the interaction and evolution of British, North American, and European approaches to human security, international law, the world economy and the environment.
