Defence management

This Programme examines: national and international defence acquisition policies and practice; defence industrial strategy; policy for, and management of, research and technology; the financing of defence; analysis of defence budgets and expenditure; the state and evolution of defence industries; human resource management, organisational development and leadership across  defence with a particular focus on the Armed Forces.  As well as research, the Programme stages an annual Defence Project Management Conference in partnership with the National Audit Office in addition to workshops and seminars to inform specific research topics.

Programme Outline

Since the publication of the Defence Industrial Strategy in December 2005, the Enabling Acquisition Change report in June 2006, and the creation of Defence Equipment and Support in April 2007, the programme has primarily been focussed on examining the changes that this is bringing about within both the MoD and industry.

Current and future projects relate to UK defence acquisition policy and practice, the shape of the UK defence markets, improving the delivery of logistic support, and the implementation of through life capability management.
