A Force for Influence?: Making British Defence Effective

Strong and flexible armed forces are essential in underpinning a UK strategy which includes a broad network of linkages with international organizations and nation states, investment in international aid programmes and strong domestic support for an activist foreign policy. Furthermore, the UK now has an opportunity to shape international responses to security issues in collaboration with the new US President. Whatever adjustments to the military procurement programme are made in the defence review, therefore, the UK will still be a major military force.
