USAID in Afghanistan

By Kate Clouston
24 Sep 2007

This article examines the role and success of USAID projects in Afghanistan. It argues that the international community needs to recognize that without a unified delivery mechanism for these funds or clarity of the overarching mission in Afghanistan, progress made by organizations like USAID will be marginalized. In the long-term, for successful development to take place, it must be an endogenous process and international actors need to adopt a culture of strategic consultation and situational awareness with each other as well as the local population.
