Xinjiang: A Two-Pronged Threat to China’s Internal Stability

When discussing major non-traditional security threats to China’s stability, many analysts cite unrest in Tibet, Taiwan, or the potential collapse of North Korea as Beijing’s most pressing concerns. Although the issues mentioned do indeed warrant attention, these analysts have missed the greatest challenge to the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) authority: Xinjiang, a province located in China’s far northwest, near the border with Central Asia.
