South Africa's ambassador to the UN has voted against a number of resolutions condemning or proposing the investigation of human rights abuses. Such actions seem incongruent with South Africa's self-professed aims of upholding human rights and furthering global nuclear disarmament. However, a closer examination reveals that this behaviour is consistent with South Africa's preference for a more representative United Nations.
