If the warnings from medical experts are true, then the world faces a potential catastrophe which could see a death toll greater than that from all wars during the past century. Furthermore, that catastrophe could result in a severe and long-lasting depression in the global economy. Even if one removes some of the hyperbole from such dire forecasts, there is sufficient evidence to give serious cause for concern. What seems agreed (by those who are qualified to know) is that a catastrophe will strike; when and how are the key questions.
