Intense media interest in weapons of mass destruction since 11 September has served to amplify the threat of WMD in the minds of the British people. On the plus side, this has led to increased awareness of the types of weapons available to terrorists and how they might be used. However, as John Eldridge explains, it is the responsibility of practitioners in the field to make every effort to ensure that the threat of WMD is constantly placed in context, to ensure that citizens' fears and anxieties are kept in check.
