Buildings and their contents are subjected to a range of attacks for a variety of motives.While the building's occupancy will determine its propensity for being attacked, it will also influence the protective measures that may be implemented without prejudicing the effective functioning of either the building or its occupants. Garth Whitty suggests that the implementation of various 'firewalls' will serve to deter most attackers and significantly mitigate the impact of attacks by perpetrators who cannot be deterred.
