Many regions of the world, including the UK, Indonesia and South Asia, have seen severe flooding in 2007. Increased rainfall is not the only factor; poor land management and urban planning also plays a significant part. If the impact of floods is to be reduced in the future, countries must learn from past mistakes and take proactive measures such as reduced building on flood plains and the adoption of flood-friendly building practices.
