The Challenges Today of Supporting Both Land and Sea Operations

There are huge challenges in supporting today’s expeditionary operations. Support requires every bit as much thought and planning as the operational campaign, and we need to make absolutely certain that stockpiles are secure and well maintained. The ability of maritime units to provide secure, mobile and high capacity storage within benign environmental conditions for prolonged periods needs to be considered more seriously as the increasingly capable software systems come on stream, allowing clearer visibility of the inventory. Joint sea-basing has yet to fulfil its potential.
