Air Power from the Sea: Next Steps

By Adrian Johns
3 Mar 2008

The delivery of air power from the sea offers the Joint Commander the inherent strengths of the maritime: poise, reach and manoeuvre to intervene at a time and place of political choice and to project power, both at sea and against the land. The approach will need to be both cooperative and multi-national, and fuse the strengths of the land and air environment – a Joint capability. The time for action is now; whilst debate is welcome, there is a real need to focus our effort to deliver and develop the capability. This will need innovation and a high degree of cooperation, and the opportunity is unique, offering a real chance to forge a key element of the UK’s Joint Expeditionary Capability.
