Reconstruction and Development in Afghanistan: A Royal Engineer Regiment’s Experiences

Phil Sherwood commands 28 Engineer Regiment based in Hameln, Germany. During the period from August 2006 to March 2007 the Regiment was deployed to Afghanistan to assist with the Reconstruction and Development effort in Helmand Province. In this article, he describes the challenges encountered by the Regiment and how these were met, but he warns that the techniques evolved may not be applicable to other operations.
