Patrick Donnelly is Director of Advanced Rotorcraft Systems, Boeing Advanced Systems, responsible for all rotorcraft research and development for Boeing with sites. Major programmes include A160 Hummingbird UAV and Joint Heavy Lift studies as well as technology insertion programmes for the V-22, AH-64, CH-47 and the MH-6 platforms. His career has spanned 27 years of preliminary design and has included the initial design work for the LHX (RAH-66 Comanche) and JVX (V-22 Osprey) platforms. He describes advances in helicopter and tiltrotor technologies, both manned and unmanned, and how these will improve performance, not least in heavy-lift capability.
