Dick Berlijn has served as the Deputy Chief (Operations) of the Defence Staff (where his tasks included heading the Defence Crisis Management Centre), Commander of the Tactical Air Force and Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Netherlands Air Force. In June 2004 he took over as Chief of the Defence Staff, the post later renamed as Chief of Defence. He talked to Bill Kincaid in The Hague on 20 April 2007.
