Delivering Flexible Effect from Underwater

Mark Anderson is Director of Equipment Capability, Underwater Effects in the UK MoD and responsible for the delivery of underwater capability. The Royal Navy’s new Astute class SSN was conceived in the Cold War, developed in the post-Cold War and enters service in this new era; the author reflects on how technology has enabled Astute to enter service with new and enhanced capability which points the way to the future evolution of the nuclear submarine.
