Gian Marco Chiarini is commanding the EU operations in Bosnia-Herzegovina and was, until recently, Deputy Chief Operation and Training for the Italian Army. He commanded the 132 Ariete Armoured Brigade in Nasiriyah in Iraq from October 2003 to November 2004. In this article, he discusses some hard-learned lessons from his brigade’s operations in Iraq.
