A comparison of the numbers of major warships in the British and French Navies from the end of the Cold War reveals something of a convergence. Indeed, numbers have been much the same for a while. This observation is not so surprising. Both nations have similar grand strategic outlooks, although their ways of achieving strategic ends have been very different in recent history – particularly in their efforts to manage the United States.
