Lebanon: Al-Qa’ida’s Next Front

Lebanon’s instability since the assassination of the former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, its weak government and the increasing political and sectarian polarization of the country are enabling Jihadist groups to flourish. But, while these problems continue, the Salafists’ threat will grow and may quickly turn into an operational offensive leading Lebanon and the whole region into a state of chaos. All those killed in the recent clashes in the north were young, suggesting there is a new generation of Jihadist Salafists determined to make Lebanon the frontline of the global jihad.
