March saw the unprecedented vote in Parliament on the Government’s proposal that Britain should remain a nuclear power by renewing its independent strategic deterrent. A number of key issues were debated: necessity, timing, cost and the implications of renewal for wider disarmament. However, a lack of trust in government has restricted the conduct of the debate.
