European Defence Capabilities: No Adaptability without Co-operation

This occasional paper examines the opportunities for improved co-operation in the field of European defence.

The question could not be more timely, given the ongoing pressures over public budgets across Europe, the coming to power of a Liberal-Conservative coalition government in Britain and the conclusions of them Strategic Defence and Security Review by the end of this year, expected to focus substantially on issues of adaptability and partnership.

In this analysis, featuring contributions from the think tank community, industry and academia, RUSI examines the opportunities, and pitfalls, offered by European co-operation in the realm of defence capability development from the political, operational, financial, and industrial perspective.
