RUSI consistently highlights vital policy issues for both domestic and global audiences, enhancing its growing reputation as a 'thought-leader institute', winning the Prospect magazine Think Tank of the Year Award 2008, and its Foreign Policy Think Tank of the Year Award in 2009.

Our research departments collaborate internally and externally to create new and innovative thinking on traditional themes. Our research departments include National Security and Resilience, Military Sciences and International Security, which between them cover all major aspects of the contemporary defence and security landscape.

RUSI undertakes over forty commissioned research initiatives each year from an established client list, which includes the Ministry of Defence (UK); the Department of Defense (USA); the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (UK); the State Department (USA); the European Union and a large number international defence and security companies.

RUSI's research profile and position within a number of global networks, including other institutions, universities and military organisations, enable the Institute to collaborate on numerous research initiatives affecting the international policy agenda.
