THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED.
With 2500 troops currently deployed in Afghanistan, Canada is playing a key role in ISAF operations. Canadian forces have been operating in Kandahar and Helmand provinces and are an essential component to both the future survival and success of the Alliance.
Given this important contribution, RUSI is pleased to host an address by General W. J. Natynczyk, Chief of the Defence Staff for Canada. General Natynczyk will be discussing "The Canadian Forces Today & Tomorrow", followed by a question and answer period.
General Natynczyk was promoted to his present rank on 2 July 2008, when he assumed his duties as Chief of the Defence Staff. He joined the Canadian Forces in 1975 after spending five years as an Air Cadet and has served in numerous regimental command positions at all levels from tank troop leader up to commanding officer of the Royal Canadian Dragoons. General Natynczyk's wide-ranging operational experience includes four years on NATO duty in Germany; UN peacekeeping duties in Cyprus; a one-year-long mission with the United Nations in the Former Yugoslavia, and he served as the Canadian Contingent Commander in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1998.
