An address by General Xiong Guangkai

13:00, 9 May 2008
RUSI, Whitehall, London, SW1A 2ET

Link to map: multimap

About the event:

PR China Flag

As the balance of power in East Asia tips towards Beijing and China’s economic influence is felt world-wide, China’s military development has been subject to increasing scrutiny.

General Xiong will provide an insight into China's national security concerns and will share his perceptions on the security implications of China's global rise.

Retiring as Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) in December 2005, General Xiong remains an important broker in Sino-US relations and leads important track-two diplomatic initiatives for China. For more than a decade, General Xiong - as the former head of China’s military intelligence and more recently as CIISS Chairman - has been a key adviser to the Chinese leadership on national security policy making.

An optional £6 sandwich lunch will be served from 12:00

Priority will be given to Institute members and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
