About the event:

Conventional wisdom and current experiences, point to conflicts of the future being complex, multi-dimensional and dangerous endeavours which demand a Joint and integrated approach as part of a wider cross-Government response.  Therefore, whilst Air Forces will continue to exploit the unique characteristics of the Air and Space environment in creating effects, they will increasingly need to be cognisant of the needs of their Sister Services and a range of other stakeholders.  Indeed, the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan are clearly demonstrating that in order to deliver precise effect, a truly Joint approach to crises requires very high levels of integration between all Components.  It is therefore important to explore the extent to which long-term success in operations will be dependent on a recognisable Joint Effects Campaign Plan, what its essential characteristics might be and the contribution Air Power should make to it.

FAC

To promote that exploration, this year’s RUSI Air Power Conference will examine the role of Air Power in the Joint environment and how it may be employed to optimum effect. It will investigate the importance of Air Power to achieving Joint outcomes, consider how Air Power capabilities may be defined and delivered in the future and how its relationship with land forces, in particular, is changing.  Conference sessions will encompass:

  • the fundamental importance of the air domain to Joint operations;
  • the increasingly vital role of space and cyberspace in securing the Joint Battlespace;
  • Command and Control in a networked environment and the training of Air leaders;
  • the critical role of responsive and reliable engineering and logistics support;
  • lessons drawn from the 2006 Lebanon War;
  • the implications of current operations for future Joint Effects Campaign Planning;
  • the effect enduring operations in Iraq and Afghanistan have had on the Air/Land relationship.

Once again, the Conference is fully supported by the Royal Air Force and brings together distinguished representatives from the British Armed Forces, Allied Air Forces, the Aerospace Industry and Academia in a unique international forum to discuss new opportunities and challenges for the Air Power community.  The venue is the RUSI/Banqueting House on Whitehall and Registration is by the form which can be accessed via the PDF link at the top of this web page.  Please address any enquiries about the Conference to the RUSI staff whose details are below.
