Whitehall Dialogue - Russia: A Global Player and Partner?

Presentation by His Excellency Mr Yury Fedotov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Court of St James's.

The national security of Russia cannot be ensured outside the global and regional context, for there can be no islets of stability in a globalizing world. Russia can exist within its national boundaries only as an active world power pursuing a resourceful policy across the entire spectrum of pressing international problems on the basis of a realistic assessment of its own capabilities.

The firmness of the international positions of Russia directly hinges on the situation within the country. The internal strengthening of Russia makes her foreign policy more purposeful and productive, and Russian diplomacy increasingly relevant in world affairs. Russia strong again has already become a major positive factor in the development of worldwide processes.

Ambassador Fedotov will discuss how the new situation in international relations has created favourable opportunities for Russia's pivotal role in a number of areas of world politics.
