About the event:
RUSI’s 4th annual resilience conference is framed around the idea of delivering resilience. The conference will provide the opportunity to examine the current position of the UK’s resilience, explore the mechanisms and organizations that contribute to delivering resilience, and consider the future directions that resilience planning and preparation could and should take. The conference will explore the diversity of the resilience landscape, reflecting the need for a holistic, consistent and enduring approach, which incorporates the public, private and voluntary sectors.
Keynote Presentation
The conference is delighted to be welcoming Terry Waite CBE who will be providing a special keynote presentation on 'The Human Aspects of Resilience'.
Key Conference Issues
- Assessing the current and future objectives and priorities of the Civil Contingencies Secretariat set against a consideration of resilience and contingency in modern society.
- Examining the different mechanisms and organizations that deliver resilience from the central, regional, and local perspectives, along with the varied government agencies.
- Scrutinizing different examples and case studies of emergencies to consider the successes and problems in preparation, response and recovery to include issues of collaboration, coordination and inter-operability.
- Analyzing the role of the private sector and business in resilience. This will include a specific analysis of the role of the insurance industry in the context of resilience.
- Considering the roles of the voluntary sector in resilience activities.
- Reflecting on how cohesive communities can potentially enhance resilience within societies.
- Exploring the attempts to embed and construct resilience into the fabric of society through building and infrastructure construction design and implementation.
