multimap About the event:
A lecture by Major General (Ret) Julian Thompson CB OBE, Visiting Professor, Depart
ment of War Studies, King's College London.
The Falklands War began on 2 April 1982, when Argentine forces invaded and occupied the Falkland Islands and South Georgia. It remains the most recent external conflict fought by the UK without any allied states. Argentina has asserted that the Falkland Islands are Argentinian territory since the 19th century and, as of 2012, shows no sign of relinquishing its claim. In his lecture, Major General Thompson will reflect on the Falklands War.
Major General (Ret) Julian Thompson CB OBE served in the Royal Marines for thirty four years in many places and campaigns around the world. He commanded 3 Commando Brigade, which carried out the initial landings in the Falklands conflict and fought most of the subsequent land battles. He is now Visiting Professor in the Department of War Studies, King's College London. Major General Thompson has written and published widely. His most recent book entitled 'Forgotten Voices Desert Victory' was published by Ebury Press in May 2011.
An optional £10 sandwich lunch shall be available from 1215.
