Goor Tsalalyachin

Position: Visiting Research Fellow

Goor is currently a Visiting Research Fellow for International Security and the Middle East at the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies. He is also writing his PhD thesis in War Studies at King's College London under academic supervision of Professor Sir Lawrence Freedman. This follows a career in government and media.

Goor developed his interest in defence and security as a journalist, serving as the Military Affairs Correspondent of the Israeli GLZ radio. He later moved to television news, covering defence and security affairs for Israel Channel 1; he then took the position of the Diplomatic Affairs Correspondent for Channel 10 News. Under these capacities, he covered most of the dramatic events of the time, providing on-the-ground intense conflict reporting and analysis, as well as coverage of the unfolding dramas of Israel's vibrant political scene and their international linkages.

Goor subsequently served as the Media Adviser to two Israeli ministers of defence, and as spokesman for security affairs in the Prime Minister's Office - both positions afforded him with critical experience in high-level government work and emergency crisis management.

Goor holds an MA (Honours) in Intelligence and International Security from the Department of War Studies, King's College London. He graduated the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy of the Interdisciplinary Centre (IDC Herzliya, Israel) in Government Studies with specialisation in Counter Terrorism and Homeland Security. He was awarded the Chevening scholarship by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the British Council, the Legacy Heritage Fellowship and other awards.

Small Israel flag How Israelis Differ on Dealing with Iran 30 Mar 2012
With prospects of igniting a regional war, some leading lights in the Israeli security establishment suggest a more careful approach. Yet, Israel perceives Iran as a rational actor that is likely to change its course only if faced by clear threat of use of force and effective international pressure. Recent US leaks about possible Israeli operational planning only heighten Israeli concerns.
