Alexandra Gheciu

Position: Associate Fellow

Alexandra Gheciu holds a BA in Political Science from York University, as well as an MA and a PhD in International Relations from Cornell University. Between 1998 and 2000, she was a SSRC-MacArthur Foundation Doctoral Fellow on Peace and Security in a Changing World, and, in 2001-02, a Jean Monnet Fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. She then moved to Oxford University, where she taught International Relations and conducted research for the Leverhulme Programme on the Changing Character of War. While she joined the University of Ottawa in 2007, she continues to serve as a Senior Research Associate with Oxford’s Leverhulme Programme. Alexandra’s first monograph, NATO in the ‘New Europe’, was published by Stanford University Press in 2005. At present, she is finishing a new monograph entitled Western Security Institutions and the ‘War on Terror’ (forthcoming with Oxford University Press, 2008).
