Paul Smyth is Head of the Operational Studies Programme within the Military Sciences Department.  As such, he has responsibility for relevant analysis, research and events, for contributing to Institute publications on operational studies matters and for liaison with external contacts. 

Paul joined RUSI in November 2006, following a 25-year career in the Royal Air Force and a period at the Ministry of Defence’s Advanced Research and Assessment Group, at the Defence Academy, Shrivenham.  His Service career encompassed numerous flying, operational and instructional appointments.  He has an MA in Defence Studies from King’s College London.
