Amyas Godfrey

Position: Associate Fellow

Amyas Godfrey is an Associate Fellow and former head of the RUSI UK Armed Forces Programme.

A graduate of University College, London he holds a BA in Archaeology focusing on ancient militaries and warfare. Following university Amyas attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and was commissioned as a regular infantry officer into The Royal Welch Fusiliers. He served as an officer for seven years on operations in Northern Ireland and Bosnia and most recently completed two tours of Iraq, the first as an ADC in the CPA in Baghdad, and the second as Battalion Intelligence Officer in the Basrah Province. Also during his time in the Army Amyas spent two years as an instructor at the Army Foundation College, Harrogate, where he trained recruits as part of the Junior Leaders Programme. In 2004 Amyas became head of the UK Armed Forces Programme at RUSI and is now, as Associate Fellow, a commentator on issues pertaining to the UK Armed Forces.

Amyas Godfrey has contributed to a variety of publications and media outlets including Newsnight, Sky News and the BBC World Service.
